Superintendent’s Corner

Congratulations and Good Luck to Brock Nolting on qualifying to compete in the State Championship Golf Tournament this week.  He will be competing in Bolivar at the Silo Ridge golf course during a 2-day tournament.  I also want to thank those of the community that came out to show their support and send him off with a cheer on Sunday morning.  I truly appreciate the community support shown for our students when they have made outstanding accomplishments!

Congratulations are also due to Coach Adams and the Stover Bulldog Baseball team for advancing to the Semi-finals in the district competition.  The bulldogs defeated Osceola to advance and will face a tough team from Skyline in the semi-final match.  By the time the paper goes to print, they will have already played and hopefully be headed to the District Championship game--Good luck Bulldogs!  And good luck to the Lady Bulldog soccer team as they play in their first game of district-level competition.

I hope all of the moms out there had a lovely Mother’s Day.  The weather was beautiful and I hope everyone got to enjoy it.  It is hard to believe it is this late in May already.  Only 5 days of school left for the seniors and 8 days for the rest of the school-aged kids.  There are a lot of things going on during these final days of school.  For the high school:  Wednesday (5-15) night at 7 PM is the sports banquet, Friday (5-17) is the high school awards night, and then Graduation is Sunday at 3 PM in the gymnasium.  For the elementary:  Friday (5/17) is the field-day/talent show, Monday (5/20) will be the reading celebration, then Tuesday will feature three assemblies with “Warpaint” from the Kansas City Chiefs presenting to the kids at 9 AM, then at 12:30-1:15 the K-3rd grade awards assembly will take place, followed by the 4th-6th grade awards assembly from 1:30-2:15.  Finally, on Wednesday (5/22) the elementary will hold their End of Year assembly at 9 AM.

***Reminder to parents that the last day of school is Wednesday, 5/22/13, and it will be an 11:30 dismissal time.  ***

The board of education met last week and did institute a new athletic activity fee for the 7th – 12th grade students involved in extra-curricular activities.  Students will be required to pay a $10 (per season, max of $30 for all seasons) athletic fee to compete in athletics beginning with the 2013-14 school year.  This move was made after discussion among community members to cut some programs to help with budget concerns.  I also presented the board with information on the costs and income from our athletics, as well as information on the over 30% of cuts that have already been made since last school year to extra-duty stipends for sponsoring/coaching extra-curricular activities.

Finally, I want to put the continued rumors to rest, our school, after making major cuts, is now in a stable financial situation.  MCR1 is not Closing!!
