The Stover
Players Speech and Drama Team is a place where kids can express their
artistic talent and passion for performance. The team competes in
competitions throughout the year, including hosting its own. At these
competitions the students can compete in eight individual categories,
two duet categories, and at the district level they can also compete in
the ensemble categories, Reader’s Theatre and One-Acts. The
organization also sponsors a spring play every year and has recently
added a night of honor and performance called Oscar Night.
The team has had
consistent efforts in the last five years, bringing home several first
place all team trophies, including 1st in conference three
times in the last five years, they are also currently the 2005
conference champions and are battling to keep their standing in the 2006
year. They have also had the honor of individually placing at
districts, and thus, qualifying several categories and students to state
competition.
All in all, the
success of the Stover Players is not just shown through the medals on
the kid’s jackets and the trophies on the shelf, but the growth in
confidence you see from the members of this group. We laugh, smile, cry
for dramatic effect, and continue to strive forward with our traditional
saying of, “Play on Playas!”
